Meet Ms. Nonhle Nkomo, A Champion for Netball in the Harry Gwala District

Ms. Nonhle Nkomo is the Chairperson of the Harry Gwala Netball Federation, where she plays a crucial role in guiding the district’s netball community.

Her responsibilities include:

  • Leading meetings and ensuring strategic planning, monitoring, and evaluation are on track.
  • Encouraging collaboration among stakeholders to promote netball in the district.
  • Ensuring accountability and fostering a sense of teamwork within the federation.
  • Promoting the game of netball, making it accessible to everyone in the district.
  • Providing leadership and opportunities for players and staff through necessary training.
  • Appointing and overseeing subcommittees to ensure all tasks are completed effectively.


Years of Service: Ms. Nkomo journey with the Harry Gwala District netball community has spanned 8 years, with nearly half of that time spent as Chairlady. Her tenure has been marked by incredible growth and notable achievements, such as her appointment as a technical official at the 2023 Netball World Cup in Cape Town. Reflecting on her years of service, Ms. Nkomo takes great pride in the federation’s progress and development.

Achievements and Impact: In 2023, she received the “Champion Data in Netball World Cup” certificate and was named “Technical Official of the Year” at the KZN Netball Awards. She has since been an technical official at Telkom Netball League(TNL) hosted by Netball South Africa(NSA). One of Ms Nkomo standout contributions is the Club Development Project, which has significantly boosted the district's netball scene. By focusing on the development of coaches, technical officials, and administrators, she has helped elevate the district’s netball standards. Her experience officiating at major tournaments has also expanded her expertise, positively impacting the local netball community.

Community Involvement: Despite her busy schedule, Ms. Nkomo finds time to give back to her community. She volunteers with a group of women who visit elderly homes and orphanages, offering support and care, these visits are about spreading love and hope, showing that there are people who still care.


Personal Motivation: Ms. Nkomo is inspired by the idea that the best leaders are those who work behind the scenes, allowing others to feel empowered and proud of their accomplishments. She believes in teamwork and celebrates group achievements, always bringing people together based on their strengths.


Fun Fact: While netball is her passion, Ms Nkomo is also a dedicated chorister at her church. She loves music, especially worship songs, and finds that singing keeps her grounded and lifts her spirits. Every morning, she starts her day with a song to keep her mood positive. Ms. Nkomo is a proud member of the Ixopo Deanery Mass Choir.
