The battle for supremacy in the KwaZulu-Natal Super League intensified at Hoy Park on Saturday, but it was the highly anticipated eThekwini Males A Derby between Ocean Predators and Ocean Dolphins that stole the show. In a contest fueled by local pride, fierce competition and passionate support from the sidelines, Ocean Predators walked away with the bragging rights after defeating Ocean Dolphins 48-42 in a pulsating Derby encounter
Predators made their intentions clear from the opening quarter, establishing an early advantage and putting Dolphins under pressure. Dolphins refused to surrender, mounting a determined fightback as they attempted to close the gap. However, Predators remained composed when it mattered the most, managing the pressure and maintaining their advantage through the closing stages to seal a memorable six-goal derby victory.
While derby grabbed the headlines Mtuba Central continued to underline why they sit at the summit of the males A Section. The league leaders survived a thrilling one-goal battle against Ocean Dolphins, edging the encounter 41-40 in a match that went down to the wire. Elsewhere Ziphozonke secured a victory over Firecrackers while Umlazi Panthers overcame Ulundi Movers. Cheetahs SA was victorious against UniZulu while Hammardale Sunbeams made two over two against UKZN and Umlazi Panthers.
In Females A Section, Hammardale Sunbeams showed their quality with 34-30 victory over youthful Harry Gwala Cubs. Cheetahs then produced a strong perfomance to defeat Sunbeams 46-40, ensuring another competitive outing at Hoy Park. Harry Gwala Cubs responded emphathically after their defeat, playing a draw against UniZulu before producing one of the biggest win of the day, a commanding 73-22 victory over Pinetown Eagles. BSS Stars were quality ruthless recording a massive 93 goal against Pinetown Eagles before adding another win against PMB Giants beating them 54-35. Ziphozonke enjoyed a perfect outing registering two victories against Phongola Mighty Queens and DUT Hurricanes.
There was no shortage of excitement in Section B, with Amanzimtoti and PMB Sprinters unable to be separated after an entertaining 39-39 draw. EDumbe Thunderbirds delivered one of the biggest performance upsetting King Shaka while KNC continued their impressive form with two comfortable victories. The next Super League action will be atUKZN Westville campus on 5-6 September 2026.
